การแสดงความตั้งใจ (intention) อาจแสดงได้โดยใช้กริยา
intend ตั้งใจ
mean จงใจ
intend : ตั้งใจ
1. I intend to buy a new car.
ผมตั้งใจจะซื้อรถใหม่สักคัน
= It is my intention to buy a new car.
เป็นความตั้งใจของผมที่จะซื้อรถใหม่สักคัน
2. Where do you intend to spend the summer holidays ?
หยุดฤดูร้อนนี้คุณตั้งใจจะไป(พักผ่อน,เที่ยว)ที่ไหน
3. I don’t intend to do it.
ผมไม่ตั้งใจจะทำสิ่งนั้นเลย
= I have no intention of doing it.
mean : จงใจ, ตั้งใจ
1. He means to make his pupils respect him.
เขาจงใจ (ตั้งใจ) ที่จะทำให้ลูกศิษย์ของเขานับถือเขา
2. Do you think they meant to start the World War in ?
คุณคิดว่าพวกเขาจงใจจะให้เกิดสงครามโลกครั้งที่สามไหม
intend that = intention is that (กริยาหลัง that ต้องใช้ shall หรือ should แล้วแต่กรณี)
We intend that this Bill shall become Law before the end of this year.
เราตั้งใจว่าร่างพระราชบัญญัตินี้จะกลายเป็นกฎหมายก่อนสิ้นปีนี้
= Our intention is that this Bill shall become Law before the end of this year.
ถ้าประโยคข้างหน้าเป็น past ต้องเปลี่ยน shall เป็น should
We intended that this Bill should become Law before the end of this year.
= Our intention was that this Bill should become Law before the end of this year.
