much และ many แปลว่า มาก เหมือนกันทั้งคู่ เช่นเดียวกับ little และ few ที่แปลว่า เล็กน้อย แต่ถึงแม้จะแปลเหมือนกันแต่หลักการใช้คำตามแกรมม่าภาษาอังกฤษ กลับแตกต่างกัน
เราใช้ much และ little กับ นามนับไม่ได้

เราใช้ many และ few กับ คำนามพหูพจน์

much ไม่ใช้ในประโยคบอกเล่า แต่จะใช้ a lot of แทน
We didn’t spend much money. (ประโยคปฏิเสธ)
We spend a lot of money. (ประโยคบอกเล่า) เราจะไม่ใช้ We spend much money
เราสามารถใช้ many และ a lot of ได้ในประโยคทุกแบบ
Many people drive too fast. หรือ A Lot of people drive too fast.
There aren’t many tourists here. หรือ There aren’t a Lot of tourists here.
เราใช้ many years / many weeks / many days ไม่ใช่ a lot of …
We’ve lived here for many years. (ไม่ใช้ a lot of years)
Little มีความหมายเท่ากับ not much , few มีความหมายเท่ากับ not many
A little มีความหมายเท่ากับ some, a small amount
A few มีความหมายเท่ากับ some some, a sma ll number
